The book that I read for my independent reading was Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins. The book's protagonist is a girl called Katniss that lives in a country called Panem. Panem is divided in twelve districts and she lives in the number twelve. They have some games that are called Hunger Games and each year one women and one man are selected to attend from each district where they fight until only one remains alive. She was selected once more because that year was the Quarter Quell which happens every 25 years and they do something unexpected. These decision was made by the President Snow that was trying to get killed Katniss and Peeta who was the other tribute who was chosen with her at the reaping of the past year.

For them to survive the games they both had to act that they were in love but for Peeta it wasn't acting. They defied the capitol by trying to get out both alive and they did successfully. After they arrived home after the first hunger games they have the victors tour and when they get back things start to change. There are new peace keepers in district 12 and they are much more strict now. They are dangerous. President Snow threatens Katniss saying that if she does not convince the people she is in love with Peeta he will kill every one she loves. The only way to protect themselves is to marry Peeta, so they get engaged. They can not marry because they need to get back to the arena but things now are very close to another revolution against the capitol. In the arena she allies with the other districts and she finally gets out alive. She is taken by a group of people trying to end the games but Peeta gets held by the Capitol.

I love this story because it is not very traditional also it is mysterious and kind of romantic. It has adventures and somehow I just couldn't stop reading this story until I finished it. I would recommend this book to my brother and some of my friends because the most important thing is that it isn't boring and it is really exciting.

The book Mockingjay is the book that I read for my second quarter independent reading book. Suzanne Collins is the author of the trilogy Hunger Games, Catching Fire and Mockingjay. Suzanne Collins was born in Hatford 1962, she also wrote the The Underland Chronicles. This book is about a revolution that the people of Panem start to do because of the way the Capitol treated them. This revolution started because in the quarter quell (that happens every 25 years and means something unexpected will happen on that year's Hunger games) Katniss was rescued and was taken to the district thirteen by a group of people that planned to take the power from the Capitol. Fights are present throughout all the book not only physical fights with weapons with the Capitol but also mental fights of the characters with themselves because they have to get through the difficulties of the war. This fights occur between the districts that support the Capitol and all the other districts that want to be free starting by district 13. Katniss Everdeen is the principal character and she is the one who represents the entire revolution and all her ideals goes against the president of Panem, President Snow. The fight takes place all throughout Panem.

I liked this book because it is interesting and it is one of those books that since the first time you start reading you do not want to close the book until you are finished reading it, it is exciting and interesting. This book has a great theme and it is kind of different from all the books I had read before. It has love, suffering, faith, friendship,  lost and many more characteristics in every single chapter of the book maybe even in every page. I would recommend this book to everyone I know that likes to read because it is spectacular.

Mockingjay

The adventures of Tom Sawyer is a very interesting book. I think that's what Mark Twain wanted to show with this novel and it is that childhood is the best stage of life. The story takes place in St.Petersburgn around the 1800's. Tom Sawyer is a kid that has certain abilities to get in and out of trouble. The story is about Tom and how he gets through with his adventures no matter how dangerous they are. One of the examples is when Tom and Becky get trapped at the cave and tom discovers Injun Joe is there, he thinks they will not get out alive. Another problem was when Huck and Tom were at the hunted house and Injun Joe noticed some one was there and they almost got killed.

This book is actually good. I have not read many real books (not for little kids) in my life but  these is one of the best. I like this book because I like the adventures and mysteries Tom went through. If some one were to read Tom Sawyer I would probably tell them that is an interesting book. That this book has a different theme it is cool to read and has some exiting parts. Tom Sawyer is good but certainly I would not read it by my own choice.

The Adventures Of Tom Sawyer

The Book Thief

The Book Thief is about a girl called Liesel and her mother had to leave her with a married couple called Rosa and Hans. They became her new mom and dad. In the way to her new family her brother died and she stole her first book. There she made a friend called Rudy, which is always asking her for a kiss, they live in Germany and the Nazis celebrated Hitlers birthday and burned a lot of books. That was another opportunity for Liesel to take one but the wife of the Mayor saw her. Liesel thought she would be in grave trouble but instead she invited her to read a t the library of her house. Liesel and Rudy started stealing food with some other kids because the work of their parents was not as good as they wanted because the Jews that lived in the town were not here any more so the Jew clients were absent so if there was not much work there was not much food. A jew called Max was staying in the basement of Liesel. Hans helped him because the father of max was the reason he did not get killed in the First World War and he offered his help to the mother of max whenever they needed it, the thing is that he never imagined that it would get to the point of risking their lives and the one of Liesel.

This story is very interesting because there are a lot of elements in it; there are stories of other people that are told that connect to the one of Liesel. It is told a little different than other stories because the narrator is death itself so it is like a character but one that is only present in the story not all tines and one that knows exactly what is happening with all the characters. I would recommend this book to my friends and family because it is interesting and it brings knowledge about the Nazi rule over Germany.

For this assignment the book I chose to read was Divergent. The

author is name Veronica Roth. The story is situated in a dystopic future

where the main character lives. After a war people divided, depending of

the things they thought were the causes of the war. Depending of what

they believed where the causes they lived in a certain way to prevent

it from happening again. There were five groups: Abnegation who

lived a selfless life, Candor that worshiped honesty, Dauntless that eradicated the fear to act amongst their people, Erudite that valued wisdom over all, Amity that felt love was the only way to live in peace and this where named factions. When people turn sixteen years old they are allowed to choose their faction. They have to go through a test that will tell them where they fit in. During this test, Beatrice gets unexpected results, she is Divergent. This is very dangerous because people are killing the people that are divergent because they do not fit in the very rigid formation of their society. This people have several factions they can fit in which means their brain is wired to work many different ways, the leaders believe they cannot be controlled, therefore she has to hide what she is. In the choosing ceremony she decides to leave her family which is abnegation and to join Dauntless. Her brother Caleb also decides to leave, he goes to the Erudite. When she arrives to Duntless it is not how she imagined, their practices are a bit harsh. They have to learn how to fight in the first stage, the second stage they have to learn how to overcome fear by being in simulations that make them thing they are living their worst fears without even knowing it is not real. One of the abilities Divergence have is that they are aware during simulations, that is how Four the trainer of Tris (the new name of Beatrice), realizes what she is but instead of selling her out he conceals the simulation results and warns her how dangerous her condition is. The other people going through the test to become dauntless separate into groups of friends, one of the guys is really competitive and sadistic, when one of the other trainees is sleeping, Peter stabs him in the eye so he can be in the first place. The third stage of training is when they have to go through their fears but they know it is not real and they have to use the mental strength they are supposed to develop during the second stage and the physical preparedness they learned during the first stage. While they are in training Tris falls in love with four, her trainer that is eighteen years old. One night they enter his fear landscape which is what she will have to do during the third stage of training, there she discovers that he came from abnegation and that his father, the leader of abnegation was hurting him before he left. They got knowledge that the Erudite were planning something against abnegation, an attack, which the Dauntless were going to lead. When the third stage of training ended they were injected with a “tracking device” but truly it was a type of simulation that in the morning forced them to fight, they did not know what they were doing, people became a mindless army. But since Tris was Divergent it did not work on her so she was conscious, when they are on their way to the attack Four finds her and she learns that he is divergent too.  They have to act like they are under the simulation so no one will notice but when they go down one of the officers, Eric, and officer who hates four is going to shoot him but Trish saves him. When they are trying to escape Trish gets shot in the shoulder and they get caught and they are sent to the Erudite leader, Janice. Four is sent away under a new simulation developed for Divergence and Trish is going to be killed.

END.

Or is it?

This story is really entertaining. It has the romantic element but everything goes together with the thrill of danger that the main characters are always in. The theme of a dystopic world provides a different perspective of life. Nothing is perfect but still there is a lot of beauty in life which should be enjoyed at any cost. The authors writing is very clear and she combines a number of themes that are very interesting.one of them is the war and fighting strategies that are discussed along the book. She also touches the most basic part of human interaction and love that is family, and combines it with the treasonous nature people have balanced by the fidelity some characters show exceptionally.  This is a book I would certainly recommend specially for people that like adventure combined with romance and that like stories of a world different from ours but that reflects its mistakes. It is a very nice narrative that you can get cough up in until you finish it since you cant put the book down for one minute.
