Shakespeare's Life 
1. How much do we know about Shakespeare's life? Why? Shakespere was born in April 23, 1564 in Standfor upon avon and died the same day in 1616. He ot married with Anne Hethawy  when he was 18 years old. He had a doughter and twins but one of the died. He went to London in 1588 so he could become an actor and a playwright. He wrote scripts to be played in the Globe Theatre where he also acted. This is known thanks to some text of Shakespere and other people of their time.

3. What date was he born on? on April 23, 1564.
4. Did Shakespeare ever get married? If so, to whom? He did got married with Anne Hethaway 
5. Shakespeare established himself as an actor and playwright.
6. What day did he die? What is unusual about this date? he died in April 23, 1616 and it is unusual because it was the date of his birth. 
7. What did he leave his wife in his will? His second favorite bed. 

Religion 

8. What were the two major religions in Elizabethan England? Protestan and Catholic religion.
9. Who dictated the favored religion? Reigning Monarchs.
10. Which Monarchs reigned during this time? When? Queen Mary I (r.1553-1558) and Queen Elizabeth I (1558-1603).
11. Which religion did each Monarch believe in? Queen Mary belived in Catholic Religion and Queen Elizabeth believed in Protestanism.
12. How did each Monarch treat those who did not follow their favored religion?Queen Mary persecuted those that practiced Protestanism and they  were burned alive. Queen elizabeth accepted the people that believed in Catholic religion and thay were treated without any difference as long as they did not attempt against peace.
13. Why did Queen Elizabeth I ban all performances of religious plays and stories? To stop the violence over religion.

Elizabethan Period 

14. What was the Elizabethan Period? The period of Renaissance, of new ideas and thinking.
 

15. When was this period? From the 14th to the 17th century aproximatedly.
16. What was the most significant invention of this time and why? The printing press because things could be distrubuted faster.
17. What did this lead to a renewed interest in? in books and information stared to spread and that lead to the interest in sciences and inventions.
18. During this period, what were unexplained events blamed on? On witches.
19. Why were people of this period superstitious? Because of new ideas, information and increased knowledge about science, tecnoloy and astrology. 
 20. What were the four humours and what were they associated with? In ancient Greece and Rome, doctors believed that the huan body was made of four humours of fluid that were the blood, the yellow vile, the blood, the phlegm and the black vile. If all of this were balanced you would be healthy and if not you would be unhealthy and and people´s complexion and personality would be affeted.

21. How was Elizabethan class structure maintained?  A way that class structure was mantained is because of the role girls could do for example study.
22. What was the Chain of Being and what did it uphold? the main idea was that everything in the world has its own place, so in the social class you were born you would tay for the rest of your life. 

 23. What is the Rotae Fortuna? It is fate, the godess Fortuna spins it and people loose or gain fortune. 


Education 

24. What did education depend on? The social class of the family and the money they had.
25. What was the main purpose of schooling? To theach boy manners according to their social class and be hlpful members of socety. 
26. Why were students taught Latin? Because it was the laguage of the educated all over Europe.
                            

27. What were girls from wealthy families educated in? In private schools by the mid sixteen century or they were located by their family in a house of a friend or acquaintance.

29. Why were courses in university conducted in Latin? Because the men that want to be important need to have knowledge of Latin.
Elizabethan Theatre 

30. What was the general feeling towards plays during this period in time? Theatre was not well seen, the plays had to be outside the city. 
31. What was the name of the first theatre? Theatr
32. What was the name of them most famous theatre? The Globe
33. What happened to this theatre? It got burned and they tried to build a replica.
34. Where did people sit or not sit? When people were in the open pit in front of the stage they would stand and in the side of the stage they would sit.   
35. When did they have performances? Why? in the afternoon because of light.
36. How many women performed in these plays? Woman could not preform in plays. 
37. What did the audience do if they didn't like the performance? they would throw food and shout at the actors.

 Shakespeare's Influence

38. What does Shakespeare's work provide reference for?Arts of the Elizabethan Epoch.

39. What were Shakespeare's histories a tribute to? To British monarchy and Britain itself.

40. What was Shakespeare attempting to do with these tributes? He is paying homage to Elizabeth and England
41. How many words did Shakespeare invent? Shakespeare invented over 1700 words. 

42. Give an example of a word or phrase we have gotten from Shakespeare. You act more in sorrow than in anger. 

43. Name one poet who was influenced by Shakespeare.The poet John Keats was inspires by Shakespeare's writing.
